This week Pope Benedict XVI reflected on Saint Dominic at his Wednesday audience. The Pope said Dominic put his faith ahead of personal gain. He asked, "Do not career and power represent a temptation to which even those who have roles of leadership and government in the Church are not immune?" He said Saint Dominic resisted this temptation. Benedict said Dominic embraced poverty, and spread the message that "Christ is the most precious treasure." The pope talked about Dominic's work in Toulouse, where he established the Order of Preachers, commonly known as the Dominicans.
