Auxiliary Bishop of Indianapolis, Christopher Coyne, has hosted numerous television series for the CatholicTV Network including Worship, Architecture & the Arts, Liturgy & Worship, the New England Emmy-nominated Sacred Space and Sacred Time. Bishop Coyne also co-hosted Sacraments with the network's third director, Monsignor Paul McInerny and has been a guest on the annual CatholicTV Telethon.
His latest CatholicTV production are segments of the network's original series Blink called, “Everything You Wanted to Know About Catholic Liturgy (but were afraid to ask)”. Bishop Coyne uses his extensive liturgical background to answer questions about Catholic liturgy such as, “how late can I come to Mass and how early can I leave?” or “did you ever wonder why the priest drops a piece of the host into the chalice?”. These segments are premiering on This is the Day as part of CatholicTV's summer season and will become available here at Bishop Coyne's own page at Your Catholic Broadband Network through Labor Day.
Sacred Space is a sequel to Worship, Architecture and the Arts. It was one of the first series that took CatholicTV out of its roots in the Archdiocese of Boston to other dioceses throughout New England. He interviewed clergy members, architects and various members of different religious communities, to bring viewers the stories behind several houses of worship. To find the “sacred spaces” examined in the series, the host and CatholicTV crews traveled to Catholic churches throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine; to Jewish temples in the region; and to the Islamic Center of Rhode Island.
The series was well received by viewers and critics alike and was nominated for a New England Emmy. At the time, Msgr. McInerny said, “We are very pleased to have been nominated for a regional Emmy for Sacred Space. Father Coyne brings a great depth of knowledge and expertise to the subject of worship spaces. Peter Kaminski, the producer and editor of the program, once again has exhibited his expertise and creativity. It is an honor just to be nominated.” This series is currently airing on CatholicTV and episodes can be found here for on-demand viewing.
